The Viceregal Lodge, is a grand, historically significant building located on Observatory Hill in Shimla. Constructed between 1880 and 1888 in the magnificent Jacobethan architectural style by the British, it served as the summer residence of the British Viceroy of India, where pivotal decisions leading up to India’s independence, including the 1945 Simla Conference, took place. Today, this imposing structure, surrounded by sprawling, beautifully maintained gardens, houses the prestigious Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), blending colonial history with academic pursuit, with parts of the building open to public tours.

The Chail Palace is a majestic heritage hotel that was once the summer retreat of the Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh.
